More Exciting News:
This is a bit personal….but I have to share. One of the things on my “bucket list” for quite some time is the AQS Quilt Show in Paducah, Kentucky. Next Saturday, six good friends and I will head that direction. I am getting more and more excited with each passing minute. Have not been before, and I am in dire need of inspiration and eye candy. Plus, such a bonus being able to share this trip with good friends. Stay tuned, I certainly will have to talk of this again!
(And the curtain falls, and time passes……)
And we are home again. Paducah was experiencing high water, and had to move the show from the Exposition Hall. They made the decision to move on the Sunday before the preview of the show on Monday night. There were three locations where previously everything had been under one roof. It was a massive undertaking. Everyone we met still had smiles on their faces and made all of us feel like we were long-lost cousins come to town.
If this is on your list of things to do, don’t procrastinate. It was a fantastic experience!
Challenge News: Hope you all have heard that the Festival theme this year is “Fiesta! Fiesta!” And this is also the theme for our challenge. Create your interpretation in a piece that is of any shape, but the combined total of all sides of the quilt cannot be less than 72 inches nor more than 160 inches (for example, an 18” X 18” quilt equals 72”; a 40” X 40” quilt equals 160”). A round quilt cannot have a diameter greater than 40 inches. Hanging sleeves are optional. Use any fabric, entirely your choice, and make sure that an identification label is firmly fastened to the bottom back corner. The Challenge quilts will be judged on appropriateness to theme, workmanship, creativity, design, and use of color. And, of course, the decision of the judge will be final. Paperwork (e-mail or hard copy) entries for the Challenge must also be received by September 1. Don’t forget there are cash prizes to be won with this part of the Festival – 1st $250; 2nd - $150; 3rd - $75. Whoopee – more fabric for the stash!!!!
Block Challenge:
Create a block of your own design or choosing not to exceed 12 ½” (that would be a 12” block finished) with the Festival theme fabric. Everyone attending the show will pick the ultimate winner that will take home all the blocks. A fat eighth of fabric is available for $1.00. Just contact Teddy Beer at ltbeer2@yahoo.com , and she help you. The fabric is really wild this year with lots of color, movement and interest. See the picture below. Should be lots of fun.
