We want to make it as user friendly and inviting as possible! WE LOVE VOLUNTEERS!
If you think you would be interested in volunteering at the Festival, we would love to have you! Please contact Jan Eaton, 509-525-6278 or email at wileydave@charter.net There are lots of jobs, and surely we can find something that you would enjoy!
Coil Baskets:
While we were in Paducah last May, several of our group bought cotton cording to make coiled fabric baskets. Such Fun! Some of us got together the other day, and created up a storm. These are quick, fun, and easy to do (if I can do it anyone can!) Some warmer weather finally has come our way, and I am having a difficult time staying in my sewing room. These baskets are really a quick fix to the craving to do something and get it finished quickly! ‘Course, Hubby always asks “What’s that for?” Drat! Does everything have to have a use? I think it’s for “just cuz it makes me feel good!” If you want to see a demonstration of the process there are several on Youtube.com . Just do a search on “fabric coil baskets.”
Pacific West Quilt Show 2011:
This looks to be an exciting show. Several of us will be traveling over to check it out. And one of our very own, Jess Berry, has had a quilt accepted by the show. Exciting!!! A new location (Tacoma) and a new name for this show, but we trust that it will be as great as always. See you there August 26 – 28, 2011!
Tips and Other Stuff:
I have discovered a daily newsletter on quilting that I am really enjoying! It is really about contemporary quilts, but there are so many great tips on many things, organizing, color theory, projects, and so much more. I really look forward to it each day. They also have many free e-books with lots great information. So, for whatever its worth – here you go. http://www.quiltingdaily.com/ .
Hope you like it!
And then in the same vein, it is my opinion that needles and thread are one of the most overlooked issues. And another newsletter that I really enjoy is the one from Superior Threads. They send one out monthly and always have information on the use of threads and the proper needle to help ensure success. I think I may have mentioned this before (bear with me, please), but lots of good info as well as bargains here. Here is a link to be able to sign up or just read. http://www.superiorthreads.com/newsletters/ . Enjoy!
AND SO WITH THAT:
I’m out of thoughts for this newsletter. Always enjoy hearing from you, so if you have a tip or suggestion, send it to info@wallawallaquiltfestival.org
I’m still waiting for the first ripe tomato to appear in my garden, but with the advent of Summer in the past two weeks, it can’t be too much longer. So, here’s wishing you all the ripe home grown tomatoes you want and a lot of quilting time to go along!
You will hear from me one more time before the Festival – just reminding you to come! And tell all your friends and neighbors too.
So, in closing, here are some things to ponder!
- What you don't say won't ever hurt you.
- You can't always judge a cow by her looks.
- It's better to wear out than rust out.
- Independence is better than riches.
- It's nice to sit and think but sometimes it's nicer just to sit.
Later!
