A Look Forward – 2009

Mark your calendars!  The dates for the 2009 show will be September 18, 19, and 20, 2009.  We plan on staying at the Community Building at the Walla Walla County Fairgrounds.  We are already in the planning stage and are headed toward another great show.  Hope you will put these dates on your calendar.  Bring a friend or three to enjoy the “eye candy”.

2009 Challenge Theme:

The Theme for the 2009 WWVQF Challenge is…….

          TEN YEARS – TEN COLORS

As mentioned before, this will be our 10th anniversary, and we invite you to help us celebrate by creating a challenge piece that embodies your interpretation of the theme.   The guidelines for the challenge are:

v       The design of your quilt may be original, traditional or a combination of old and new.  If the design is based on another design you have seen, please acknowledge the original quilt maker.

v       Your quilt must consist of top, batting, and backing.  It must be fastened together with machine quilting, hand quilting, or ties.

v       Your quilt may be pieced and/or appliquéd, and embellished in any way.

v       The quilt can be of any shape, but the combined total of all sides of the quilt cannot be less than 72 inches nor more than 160 inches (for example, an 18” X 18” quilt equals 72”; a 40” X 40” quilt equals 160”).  A round quilt cannot have a diameter greater than 40 inches.

v       Hanging sleeve is optional.

v       You may use any fabric(s) of your choice.  The choices should reflect the theme of the   Challenge, “Ten Years – Ten Colors."

v      An identification label must be securely fastened to the bottom back corner of the quilt (a paper label is not acceptable).  The label must contain the same full name and address that appears on the official entry form.  The label should also contain the title of the entry.

Plenty of time for those creative juices to start percolating you’re your design.  And don’t forget there are $$$$cash$$$$$ prizes to be won with this challenge!

Yes, this is the web site line for the Festival.  But we do ask for your patience while we rework for the 2009 information.  Thanks for your patience!

Dress Your Own Geisha

Another Challenge is an appliqué project,” Dressing the Geisha.  The foundation fabricis available at Quilt Mania, 1442 Jadwin Ave # C, Richland, WA. (509) 946-7467.  You may use the method of your choice to dress and finish off this lovely lady.  Make sure that you get the Geisha with the umbrella to be in the running!

     Block Lotto Fabric

As soon as we have identified the fabric for he 2009 Block Lotto, we’ll let you know.  Make any block that measures 12” (finished size or 12.5” unfinished) and has some of the specified fabric.  “People’s Choice” will  decide who should get all the blocks.  Lots of fun!

Quilting Tips

When I sew, I use a thread “spider” to begin to sew and also to end.  This does four things:  (1)  Helps the machine sew points without “eating” them; (2) keep the long threads off the back of your quilt; (3) keeps all those stray threads off the floor, thus reducing clean-up time; and (4) your seam is as strong with the first stitches as it is in the middle stitches.  As Martha would say “It’s a good thing!”

If you have two pieces that are to be sewn together and one of the pieces is just a tad bit larger than it should be (‘course that never happens to us!) put the larger piece next to the feed dogs of your machine as you sew the seam.  The machine will automatically help you ease the larger piece in.

And Last but not Least…

A lot of you may be receiving this newsletter for the first time.  We took all those email addresses off the guest register and added them to our mailing list.  If you should decide that you would rather not hear about all the happenings, just reply to this newsletter with the word “remove” and it will be done.

To those of you who hang in there with me.  Thanks so much for reading.  Stay tuned for further developments.

As always, comments, ideas, suggestions, constructive criticisms are really appreciated.  I’m here at:  e-mail:  wwvquilts@hotmail.com; snail mail:  WWVQF, P. O. Box 1471, Walla Walla, WA 99362; Phone – 541-938=6130.

Have a Happy, Safe Thanksgiving.

Later Folks!
